Last night someone on freecycle was offering a guinea pig with all the equipment - they were allergic to him - so I said we’d like to have him. We picked him up after our guests left today. We discussed names the whole way back but things were getting pretty heated so we’ve put that conversation on hold until tomorrow.

Cute addition to the family! I hope the next round of talks about the name goes better! :o)
We’ve found ours loves almost any kind of vegetable, but most of all carrots. I we let her she would keep eating them until she became so completely spherical her little legs wouldn’t reach the ground. And get lots of timothy hay.
It’s best not to use the bedding made from aromatic wood like cedar or pine. They cover up the smell, but the fumes can harm the animal. We find that although the brightly colored, artificial beddings are more expensive, but in absorbing ability plus durability they’re worth the money.
Don’t tell the kids or Quyen, but I understand that in South America guinea pigs roasted on a spit are a real delicacy.
Aw, so cute. We had one in my 6th grade classroom named Orville.
Isn’t he a cutie? Dale - I’ve been reading about fleece as bedding tonight and think we might give that a shot. I suspect that the people getting rid of the guinea pig were probably actually allergic to that nasty cedar bedding! We’re off to the library tomorrow to look for more info.
Any names yet? I suggest something grand like Intergalactic Commandant Xerxes VII of The Crab Nebula to help him get settled in.
I’m interested - what did you find out about the fleece bedding?
Hi Kelly - what I’ve read is that the same materials that are used in cloth diapering can be used to line a guinea pig cage - a layer of fleece and a layer of toweling - moisture goes through the fleece and is absorbed by the toweling so little feet stay dry. Do you have a g.p.too?
No, we do not but one of my sisters has several and is looking for better bedding options. We have a turtle, fish and a dog.
I will let her know about this I am sure she will give it a try! Thanks.
I think he looks like a Moe.
